What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy, using the gravity method, is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of poisons, gas and accumulated fecal matter. Unlike an enema, it does not involve the retention of water. There is usually no discomfort, very little internal pressure, just a steady, gentle flow in and out of the colon.
What is the difference between the closed and open Colonic Hydrotherapy systems?
During the closed system is when you lay on a bed on your left side for the therapist to insert the speculum or by yourself. The therapist is in control of the water going in and then releasing the water by turning the tap. During the release time the therapist may do some abdominal massage to help facilitate a release.
The water and the fecal matter goes out through the large tube. Through the viewing tube to the sewerage you are able to see what you are releasing. The therapist remains with you for the entire procedure.
During an open system colonic, after some education on how the system operates, you are shown how to position yourself on the form fitted bed and how to put in the small rectal tube. The therapist leaves the room while you undress from the waist down, position yourself on the bed and insert your tube and then cover yourself up, maintaining your modesty. You then let your therapist know you are ready, the therapist then starts the water flow and explains how to turn it off if at all you become uncomfortable. The Colenz has an exhaust system ensuring an odor free treatment.
As the water trickles in and you get the urge to defecate or push out, you do so. The water and the fecal matter goes around the tube and drops through the contour basin under your bottom in the table and then travels to the sewer system.
Men and young adults prefer the open system because you can have some time alone as people often release and let go better if alone. This does not mean you are left completely as the therapist is only just behind the door.
How Is a Colonic Hydrotherapy Administered?
With the closed system, there will be a therapist present during the whole session, a person receiving colonic hydrotherapy lies on a bed on their left side. A speculum is gently inserted into the rectum, by yourself or with the help of the therapist. Water flow, which is under the control of the person receiving the colonic hydrotherapy, flows into the colon via speculum, then out and around the speculum carrying with it impacted feces and mucus. As the water flows out of the colon you gently massage your abdomen to help the colon release its contents.
With the open system, a person receiving colonic hydrotherapy, lies on the Colenz which is a colon cleansing device that is a FDA Class I non-prescriptive system.
The person receives a very effective cleanse on this device because the person is lying virtually flat, allowing the water to flow around the entire colon without the counter forces of gravity. During a 30-45-minute session the person will be flushed with up to 15 gallons of water.
The Colenz is a gravity-fed device. The water gently hydrates the colon through a flexible rectal nozzle that is ¼” in diameter. There is a one-way check valve between the nozzle and the water tubing to prevent the back flow from the nozzle. The Colenz has both a warm (98° to 102°) and a cool reservoir. There is no temperature control valve or gauge on the device but water from the two reservoirs can be mixed to reduce the temperature of the water from body temperature to a cooler flow as the client desires.
The Colenz is an open device allowing the body to evacuate naturally. Larger solid pieces can be eliminated without having to fit through a speculum. The rectal nozzle is locked in place and moves to the side when the client eliminates the waste matter. The nozzle cannot be over-inserted into the colon because it is locked into the scoop on the catch basin. The entire procedure is virtually odorless.
Indications of a toxic bowel are:
- Coated Tongue
- Cold Extremities
- Abdominal Weight Gain
What happens during a colonic hydrotherapy?
A colonic hydrotherapy session is usually 30 to 45 minutes in which 15-20 gallons of water are gently flushed through the colon. You are kept covered during the entire session. All waste is disposed though the tube: thus, there is no odor. The use of disposable instruments is employed to secure total sanitation and hygiene. Our water is filtered and passed though UV light system.
How many colonic hydrotherapy sessions are recommended?
One colonic hydrotherapy, though helpful, is not sufficient to effectively cleanse the colon. We recommend following a comprehensive program with both nutritional input and colon management techniques. A series of up to 8-15 colonic hydrotherapy are the best for a thorough program. The first 3 colonic hydrotherapy should take place over a period of ten days, followed by one weekly colonic hydrotherapy throughout the rest of the series. If this program is not possible, we will work with you to design a shorter program.
When should you have a colonic hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy is good anytime but are especially beneficial whether is a health issue for which colon and tissue cleaning would be helpful. Maintenance colonic hydrotherapy are a nice way of inaugurating every season change. Colonic hydrotherapy is useful to do before a colonoscopy (a medical examination performed by a Gastroenterologist). Colonic hydrotherapy is extremely helpful before, during, and after a fast. Because colonic hydrotherapy often alleviates symptoms of PMS, they are useful to have before and during menstruation. It’s amazing how light you will feel after the procedure.
What are the benefits of colonic hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy offers relief from a variety of disturbance by cleansing the colon of impacted and putrefactive fecal matter. Fatigue, gas, headaches, irritability, skin problems, cold hands and feet, lethargy are among the problems people have found relieved by colonic hydrotherapy. Constipation of course is another as well as chronic diarrhea. Your sense of well-being is often dramatically improved with colonic hydrotherapy. You feel lighter, more energetic. The body can again assimilate food in the colon and better defend itself against disease. Natural peristalsis, tone and regularity are restored, and many serious diseases may be averted through this gentle, sterile, scientific technique. Colonic hydrotherapy is a key factor in the restoration of the body’s natural balance or what we call good health.
How to prepare for a colonic?
Please follow these instructions for the day before and of each colonic hydrotherapy.
- Lean Meats (Chicken/Fish)
- Steamed Rice
- Chewing Gum
Drink plenty of water, herbal teas and fresh vegetables juices. Refrain from eating any solid foods two (2) hours before your scheduled colonic hydrotherapy appointment. Our colon therapist will advise you on what to eat following the colonic hydrotherapy session.
How the health of our colon affects our total health?
The colon is a tube approximately five feet long and 2 ½ inches in diameter. A healthy colon has uniform size and tone. It extends from the cecum, where it joins the small intestine, up and across the abdominal cavity and down the left side of the body until it reaches the sigmoid and rectum. The three main functions of the colon are:
- The final digestion of our food
- The elimination of digestive residue
- The discharge of toxins and waste from our body
We experience better health and well-being when the colon is clean and functioning normally. When the colon is congested with stagnant wastes, poisons back up into our system and pollute the inner environment. This is called autointoxication which literally means “self-poisoning”.
All of the body’s tissues are affected by the autointoxication. The chart below shows the organs affected and the impact on our well-being:
Poisons backup into the:
- Nervous System
- Skin (elimination organ)
Affect to the body:
- Irritable, depressed
- Breath foul
- Sallow, wrinkled
- Tired, feeling old
Constipation is one of the first signs indicating to us that our bowel is not functioning properly. When a person is constipated, the walls of the colon are often encrusted with accumulated fecal matter. The inner diameter of the colon is reduced like a water pipe blocked by mineral deposits, and eventually the opening becomes narrower and narrower making it more difficult to pass wastes through. Since the encrusted feces line the colon wall, the colon is unable to absorb nutrients from our food in the last phase of the digestive process. Wastes from the blood steam which should normally be drawn into the colon through the colon wall are re-absorbed by the body along with other toxins resulting from the fermentation and putrefaction of incompletely digestive food. Subsequently, intestinal stasis often follows which occurs when the muscular contractions known as peristalsis can no longer sweep the hardened feces along the digestive canal.
A person can ever have several bowel movements a day and still be constipated. The movements are usually smaller and occur more often because the inner diameter of the colon is smaller than it should be. The body reacts to this constricted bowel by stepping up the frequency of the peristalsis wave action to allow the waste to exit the body. Taken to its limit, the effect can be diarrhea, which is when the body moves out the waste so fast, the bowel doesn’t have time to remove the water and consolidate the waste into stool.
These reasons are why thousands of people each year choose colonic hydrotherapy irrigation as a safe, inexpensive way to improve and maintain good health.
Facts about an unhealthy colon:
When food is not eliminated, it coats the walls of the colon and prevents vital absorption of nutrients. Many clinicians feel that an unhealthy colon contributes to modern diseases (Dr. John Harvey Kellogg of the famed Battle Creek Sanitarium estimated 90% of diseases are related to unhealthy colon).
Facts about a healthy colon:
It empties every 6-8 hours waste is produced for everything that does into the body except distilled water - 3 meals in 3 meals out. Colon health is an on-going process and reversal of an unhealthy colon takes time, sometimes years.
What disease is second to heart disease?
The desire for good health is something we all share. We spend thousands of dollars treating the symptoms of disease and a portion of our income to health insurance to cover our expenses for cancer, heart disease, etc. in the event our bodies should succumb to these diseases. Yet, very little is invested in the prevention of disease which costs far less then the treatment. One example of this is cancer of the colon. We don’t hear much about it, yet it is second only to heart disease as the most common cause of death in the United States. While few would argue the importance our diet plays in our health, the removal of toxic waste from our bodies is important too. You see, good health is as much a function of how well we eliminate wastes from our bodies as how well we eat.
Can colonic hydrotherapy affect the flora balance?
Good flora does not usually predominate in colons that have old wastes stuck to their walls. Colonic hydrotherapy washes out, not only the bad flora, but also the anaerobic environment in which it grows. Then good flora has the opportunity and ability to thrive in a clean (aerobic) environment.
Can colonic hydrotherapy affect the electrolyte balance?
Colonic hydrotherapy has very little effect on the balance of electrolytes. The few that are lost are replaced by proper eating or by the fresh juices that you might drink later.
Who can’t have a colonic hydrotherapy done?
Anyone who has rectal bleeding, colon or abdominal surgery done within a year, pregnant women, liver or kidney dialysis patients, abdominal hernia present or if under cardiac distress, Crohn’s disease, severe hemorrhoids, rectal or intestinal tumors.
What happens after your colonic hydrotherapy session?
After the session it is best to give yourself the time to recuperate enabling your body to rest. Most people will feel lighter and cleaner but occasionally you may feel tired, hungry, experience aches so when that happens allow your body to rest and recover. Detoxing is hard work.
Is Colonic hydrotherapy for weight lost?
Colonic hydrotherapy is also a direct means of losing weight, by cleaning the walls of your colon you are able to absorb nutrients better and be more healthy. Some clients experience that when they don’t have a daily bowel movement that carefully weighing themselves minutes before the colonic hydrotherapy session and then right after the session on the same scale, lose between 3-5 pounds of fecal matter.
